STEIN, ADELLE\n\n97, of Chicago, Sarasota FL, San Juan PR, Elmira NY and Buffalo NY, died peacefully surrounded by her family in Chicago on December 25, 2015. Adelle and her husband Aaron Stein (1915-2001) raised their four sons in Elmira NY, and were integral members of the community. Born in Buffalo to Max and Sarah Yasinow, Adelle was a proud graduate of Bennett High School and the University of Buffalo. She met the love of her life at age 16 while visiting an aunt and uncle in Elmira in 1934, and married Aaron in 1940. Adelle was an active parent at her sons' schools, a vital and supportive partner in Aaron's many civic engagements, an avid reader of the NY Times for over 8 decades, a fashion maven of great style, world traveler and at her core a ferocious, loving, supportive mother and advocate for her sons and husband. Adelle and Aaron left Elmira for his health in 1973, moving first to San Juan PR and eventually settling in Sarasota where they enjoyed the weather, culture and new friends and old for more than 25 years. In 2008 Adelle moved to Chicago to be near family and in a central location so all her "boys" could easily visit. Adelle became a vital part of the culture and neighborhood at Montgomery Place Retirement Community in Chicago in 2008 and spent her final years in the wonderful care of the staff at Belmont Village of Oak Park IL. She is survived by her sons, Geoffrey (late Sharon Stein and Barbara Waite-Jaques) of Albany NY; Thomas (Janet Stratton Stein) of Santa Rosa Beach; Fredric (Nikki W. Stein) of Chicago and Howard (Dorothy Stein) of Oakland CA; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren; her brother, Herschel York of Cincinnati OH; and many nieces and nephews; and cousins, including Dr. Edward Grandt of Elmira.
